As part of the “TED family,” the TEDx Santa Cruz team was granted a free license to live-stream one day of the live TED 2011 conference for a public audience. License is one thing, but the ability to stage a large, public screening event with 3 weeks notice is a whole other ball of wax.

As a maker all-electric freeway commuter cars, Green Vehicles, Inc. works with leading-edge battery technology companies to power its electric vehicles. In this case Leyden Energy, Green Vehicles’ battery technology partner, was applying for a US Department of Energy (DOE) grant under the Vehicle Technologies Program. Green Vehicles was named as a sub-awardee for portions of the grant’s technology development that would occur within Green Vehicles. Such cases require the subawardee to contribute to the grant process as well.

As a maker of battery-electric freeway commuter cars founded in 2007, Green Vehicles, Inc. had a leading-edge, clean-technology product. Meanwhile, the State of California wants to be the epicenter of clean-tech research and development. California’s SB71 created incentives for clean-tech companies to stay in-state, by excluding companies from sales and use tax (SUT) for equipment used for development and manufacturing of advanced energy and transportation products.
